J. Presper Eckert

J. Presper Eckert (1919–1995) was an American computer engineer who co-designed the ENIAC and co-founded the company that built the UNIVAC I.

John Mauchly: American physicist and computer designer who co-designed the ENIAC and co-founded the company that built the UNIVAC I. Mauchly partnered with Eckert on both the ENIAC and the UNIVAC venture.
Vacuum tube: An electronic component that controls current flow through a vacuum. Vacuum tubes formed the switching elements in the ENIAC’s electronic arithmetic circuits.
ENIAC: An early general-purpose electronic digital computer completed in 1945 at the University of Pennsylvania. Eckert and Mauchly designed this landmark machine for U.S. Army ballistic calculations.
University of Pennsylvania: A private research university in Philadelphia, founded in 1740. Eckert studied and taught there, where he and Mauchly developed the ENIAC.
