Jacques Demy

Jacques Demy (1931–1990) was a French film director and screenwriter whose stylized musicals include The Umbrellas of Cherbourg and The Young Girls of Rochefort.

The Umbrellas of Cherbourg: A 1964 French musical film by Jacques Demy, sung throughout and starring Catherine Deneuve. Its sung-through form and bittersweet romance became Demy’s signature.
