Jacques Derrida

Jacques Derrida (1930–2004) was a French philosopher who developed deconstruction, a way of reading that exposes tensions and instability in texts and concepts.

Deconstruction: A mode of analysis that traces tensions and unstable hierarchies within texts and concepts. Derrida developed this approach, which became the name most closely associated with his work.
Différance: Derrida’s term for meaning’s dependence on both difference between signs and deferral across time. It condenses his account of why meaning cannot be pinned to a self-contained present.
