Jakob Bernoulli

Jakob Bernoulli (1655–1705) was a Swiss mathematician who helped develop early calculus and probability theory. His work included the first rigorous treatment of the law of large numbers.

Infinitesimal calculus: A mathematical framework for studying change and accumulation through differentiation and integration. Bernoulli helped establish calculus as a systematic mathematical discipline.
Law of large numbers: A theorem stating that sample averages converge toward expected values as the number of trials grows. Bernoulli proved an early version in his posthumously published Ars Conjectandi.
Jacob Bernoulli: An alternative English rendering of Jakob Bernoulli’s name, widely used in mathematical literature. The spelling Jacob appears in many accounts of the same mathematician.
Pascal's wager: Blaise Pascal’s argument that practical reasoning under uncertainty can favor belief in God. Bernoulli’s probability framework grew from earlier attempts to reason mathematically about uncertain choices.
