James Bowie

James Bowie (c. 1796–1836) was an American frontiersman and soldier who became a Texas Revolution commander and died at the Alamo.

Battle of the Alamo: A 1836 siege in which Mexican forces captured the Alamo mission in San Antonio from Texian defenders. Bowie died during this siege, which became the central episode of his legend.
William B. Travis: A lawyer and Texian commander who led the Alamo’s defense in 1836. Travis shared command of the Alamo garrison with Bowie before the siege.
Bowie knife: A large fixed-blade knife associated with American frontier fighting and named for James Bowie. Bowie’s reputation became closely attached to this weapon and its evolving legend.
Alamo defenders: The Texian and Tejano soldiers and civilians present at the Alamo during its 1836 siege. Bowie’s story belongs to a diverse garrison, not solely to later heroic portrayals.
