James McKeen Cattell

James McKeen Cattell was an American psychologist who pioneered mental testing, promoted quantitative methods, and helped establish psychology as an experimental science in the United States.

Wilhelm Wundt: A German psychologist who founded a laboratory for experimental psychology at the University of Leipzig in 1879. Cattell studied with Wundt in Leipzig and brought experimental methods back to the United States.
Mental testing: The use of standardized tasks to measure psychological abilities and individual differences. Cattell coined the term and devised a battery of tests intended to quantify individual differences.
