Japanese invasion of Malaya

Japan’s 1941–1942 campaign to conquer British-controlled Malaya began with landings in December 1941 and ended with the fall of Singapore in February 1942.

Battle of Kota Bharu: A Japanese amphibious landing battle fought in northeastern Malaya on 8 December 1941. The landing opened Japan’s campaign on the peninsula hours before the attack on Pearl Harbor.
Japanese expansionism: Japan’s pursuit of territorial and political dominance in East Asia and the Pacific from the late nineteenth century to 1945. The invasion formed part of Japan’s wider drive to control Southeast Asian resources and territory.
