Jean-Joseph Rabearivelo

Jean-Joseph Rabearivelo (1901–1937) was a Malagasy poet, novelist, and translator who wrote in Malagasy and French. His work joined local traditions with modern literary forms and helped shape modern African literature.

Malagasy language: The Austronesian language spoken by most people in Madagascar. Rabearivelo wrote poetry in Malagasy as well as French.
Presque-Songes: A 1934 French-language poetry collection by Jean-Joseph Rabearivelo. The collection displays his French verse and recurring dreamlike imagery.
