Jean Taylor

Jean Ellen Taylor is an American mathematician whose work on minimal surfaces and soap-film geometry helped establish rigorous descriptions of singularities in area-minimizing surfaces.

Geometric measure theory: A branch of mathematics that uses measure and integration to study geometric objects, including irregular surfaces and their limits. Taylor used its tools to make variational questions about surfaces mathematically precise.
Plateau's laws: Empirical rules describing the angles and junctions formed by soap films in equilibrium. Taylor supplied a rigorous mathematical account of the local junction patterns these laws describe.
Frederick J. Almgren Jr.: An American mathematician who developed foundational methods in geometric measure theory and the study of minimal surfaces. Almgren’s framework shaped the variational setting in which Taylor studied soap-film geometry.
