Star Wars : A science-fiction franchise created by George Lucas, centered on conflict between the Jedi and Sith. The fictional universe supplies Jediism’s central imagery, language, and ethical models.
The Force : A fictional energy field in Star Wars that connects living beings and can be sensed or used by some characters. Jediists variously interpret this central fictional idea as metaphor, spirituality, or a real force.
Jedi philosophy : A body of fictional teachings and ethical ideas associated with Jedi characters in Star Wars. Jediism draws on these teachings while adapting them for real-world moral life.
Jediism and Jedi census responses : The distinction between organized or spiritual Jediism and census answers identifying as Jedi, sometimes given as jokes or protests. Public census numbers do not directly measure membership in Jediist religious communities.

Jedi census phenomenon : The appearance of Jedi or Jedi Knight as a reported religion in national censuses, notably in several countries around 2001. Census campaigns made Jedi identity visible beyond organized Jediist communities.
Religion : A system of beliefs, practices, and institutions concerned with sacred or ultimate realities and human life. Jediism’s status and self-understanding depend partly on how religion is defined.
