Jerzy Neyman

Jerzy Neyman (1894–1981) was a Polish-American mathematician who helped establish modern mathematical statistics, notably through confidence intervals and a framework for hypothesis testing.

Statistical inference: The use of data and probability models to draw conclusions about populations or processes. Neyman’s work helped shape the mathematical foundations of inference.
Confidence interval: A data-based interval produced by a procedure with a specified long-run coverage probability. Neyman developed the modern repeated-sampling interpretation of confidence intervals.
