Jialing River

The Jialing River is a major river in southwestern China, flowing through Sichuan and Chongqing before joining the Yangtze River at Chongqing.

Yangtze River: The longest river in Asia, flowing east across China to the East China Sea. The Jialing joins the Yangtze at Chongqing, carrying its waters into the larger basin.
Hydroelectricity in China: Electricity generated from flowing or stored water at dams and other installations in China. Dams on the Jialing contribute to the country’s extensive hydropower network.
Yangtze River flood of 1931: A catastrophic flood across the Yangtze basin in China during 1931. The Jialing contributes water to the basin whose floods have affected downstream communities.

Qinling Mountains: A major east–west mountain range in central China that separates northern and southern climates. The Jialing’s headwaters rise in this mountain region.
Chongqing: A major municipality in southwestern China at the confluence of the Jialing and Yangtze rivers. The city occupies the river’s best-known meeting point with the Yangtze.
Tingzikou Dam: A large multipurpose dam on the Jialing River in Sichuan Province. Its reservoir supports power generation, flood control, and water supply.
