Jimmy Lai

Jimmy Lai is a Hong Kong media entrepreneur and pro-democracy activist who founded the clothing retailer Giordano and the newspaper Apple Daily.

Chris Patten: Chris Patten was the last governor of Hong Kong before its 1997 transfer from British to Chinese rule. Patten governed during Lai’s early years as a Hong Kong entrepreneur and public figure.
Apple Daily: Apple Daily was a Hong Kong newspaper founded by Jimmy Lai in 1995 and shut down in 2021. The newspaper became Lai’s most influential media venture and a target of authorities.
Giordano: Giordano is a clothing retailer founded by Jimmy Lai in Hong Kong in 1981. Lai built his first major business through this apparel chain before entering publishing.
