Jimmy Savile

Jimmy Savile (1926–2011) was a British television and radio presenter whose celebrity and charitable work were followed by revelations that he sexually abused hundreds of people.

Operation Yewtree: A Metropolitan Police investigation launched in 2012 into sexual offences associated with Jimmy Savile and other public figures. Its posthumous investigation documented allegations against Savile and widened scrutiny to other suspects.
Top of the Pops: A BBC music programme that presented popular singles and performances from 1964 to 2006. Savile became one of its original presenters and a long-running public face.
Mecca Leisure Group: A British leisure company that operated dance halls and entertainment venues during the twentieth century. Savile worked as a disc jockey at Mecca dance halls before becoming a broadcaster.
Mark Williams-Thomas: A British investigative journalist and former police officer who reported on Jimmy Savile’s abuse. His 2012 ITV investigation brought survivor accounts to national attention.

Savile Report: A 2013 NHS investigation into Jimmy Savile’s access to hospitals and abuse at NHS facilities. It traced how Savile exploited institutional access and how staff complaints were handled.
Jim'll Fix It: A BBC television programme in which Jimmy Savile arranged experiences requested by young viewers. Its format brought Savile into contact with children and became central to later abuse revelations.
Dance hall: A venue designed for social dancing, often featuring live music or recorded dance music. Dance halls were the setting for Savile’s early work as a disc jockey.
