Jiva

Jiva is the living, conscious soul in Jain philosophy, distinct from nonliving matter. It is beginningless and capable of liberation from karmic bondage.

Jain vegetarianism: Jain vegetarianism excludes animal flesh and often restricts foods whose gathering harms living beings. Dietary restraint reduces injury to embodied jivas.
Atman: Atman is the self or soul discussed in several Indian philosophical and religious traditions. Jain jiva resembles some accounts of atman but has its own plural, embodied framework.
Ajiva: Ajiva is the Jain category of nonliving substances, including matter, space, and time. It names everything that lacks the consciousness defining jiva.
Samvara: Samvara is the stopping of new karmic influx through restraint and disciplined conduct in Jainism. It prevents further karmic matter from entering the jiva.
