Jo Van Fleet

Jo Van Fleet (1914–1996) was an American stage, film, and television actress. She won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for playing Kate in East of Eden (1955).

East of Eden (1955 film): Elia Kazan's 1955 film adaptation of John Steinbeck's novel, starring James Dean. Van Fleet won her Oscar for playing Kate, the estranged mother of Cal and Aron.
Elia Kazan: A Greek-American director and cofounder of the Actors Studio, known for influential stage and film work. Kazan directed Van Fleet in East of Eden and Wild River.
