Joachim du Bellay

Joachim du Bellay (c. 1522–1560) was a French Renaissance poet and a founding member of the Pléiade. His sonnet sequence Les Regrets draws on exile in Rome to reflect on France, poetry, and loss.

Pléiade: A group of sixteenth-century French poets who sought to enrich French literature through classical models and linguistic innovation. Du Bellay helped define this poetic movement and its program.
