John Foster Dulles

John Foster Dulles was U.S. secretary of state from 1953 to 1959 under President Dwight D. Eisenhower. He shaped Cold War policy through alliances, nuclear deterrence, and opposition to communism.

Eisenhower Doctrine: A 1957 policy offering U.S. economic or military aid to Middle Eastern states resisting communist aggression. Dulles helped formulate this extension of containment into the Middle East.
