Joseph Radetzky von Radetz

Joseph Radetzky von Radetz (1766–1858) was an Austrian field marshal who commanded Habsburg forces in northern Italy during the revolutions of 1848–1849.

Battle of Custoza (1848): A July 1848 battle in which Radetzky’s forces defeated the Sardinian army near Verona. This victory restored Austrian control across much of Lombardy-Venetia.
Charles Albert of Sardinia: King of Sardinia from 1831 to 1849, who led the kingdom during the First Italian War of Independence. Radetzky’s victories over Charles Albert’s armies ended the king’s campaign and reign.
