Joseph Stalin

Joseph Stalin was a Soviet political leader who ruled the Soviet Union from the late 1920s until his death in 1953. His rule combined forced collectivization, rapid industrialization, mass repression, and victory over Nazi Germany.

Great Purge: A campaign of political repression and executions in the Soviet Union, especially intense from 1936 to 1938. It eliminated perceived rivals and terrorized officials and citizens under Stalin.
Collectivization in the Soviet Union: The forced consolidation of Soviet farms into collective and state farms, begun at scale in the late 1920s. Stalin's drive to collectivize agriculture transformed rural life and provoked resistance.
