Jump cut

A jump cut is an edit that creates a conspicuous discontinuity between successive shots of the same subject, often making time or movement seem to skip.

Continuity editing: A system of editing that makes changes between shots feel spatially and temporally coherent. Jump cuts deliberately break the smooth continuity this editing system seeks to preserve.
