Knowra K. R. Narayanan K. R. Narayanan K. R. Narayanan was an Indian diplomat and politician who served as India’s tenth president from 1997 to 2002. He was the first Dalit to hold the office.
Jawaharlal Nehru : India’s first prime minister, serving from independence in 1947 until 1964. Nehru appointed Narayanan to India’s diplomatic service, beginning his public career.
President of India : India’s head of state, elected indirectly and empowered by the Constitution with defined executive and constitutional functions. This office provided the framework for Narayanan’s decisions and public interventions.
Dalit politics : Political movements and institutions concerned with the rights, representation, and power of Dalit communities in South Asia. Narayanan’s election became a milestone in the representation of Dalits in national institutions.
Uzhavoor : A town in Kerala’s Kottayam district and the birthplace of K. R. Narayanan. Narayanan’s early life began in this village, then part of the princely state of Travancore.
