Kamehameha V

Kamehameha V, born Lot Kapuāiwa, was the fifth monarch of the Kingdom of Hawaiʻi, reigning from 1863 until his death in 1872.

Constitution of 1864: The constitution promulgated by Kamehameha V that replaced Hawaiʻi’s 1852 constitution and strengthened royal authority. It was the defining institutional change of his reign, issued after he rejected proposed limits on the monarchy.
