Karlheinz Stockhausen

Karlheinz Stockhausen (1928–2007) was a German composer who pioneered electronic music and became a leading figure in postwar avant-garde music.

Gesang der Jünglinge: A 1955–56 electronic composition combining a boy soprano’s recorded voice with electronically generated sounds. It brought human voice and electronic sound into a single spatially organized work.
Integral serialism: A compositional method that organizes multiple musical parameters through ordered series. Stockhausen extended serial control beyond pitch to duration, dynamics, and timbre.
Darmstadt Summer Courses: A recurring postwar festival and teaching program for contemporary music in Darmstadt, Germany. Stockhausen became a central figure in the courses’ international avant-garde community.
