Kassia

Kassia was a ninth-century Byzantine Greek poet, composer, and abbess. Her hymns remain part of Eastern Orthodox worship, especially the Holy Wednesday hymn known as the Hymn of Kassiani.

Hymn of Kassiani: A Byzantine hymn attributed to Kassia, sung in Orthodox Holy Week services on Holy Wednesday. This is Kassia’s most famous surviving composition and the clearest example of her liturgical voice.
