Katanga secession

Katanga secession was the 1960–1963 attempt by the mineral-rich Congolese province of Katanga to separate from the Republic of the Congo, backed by Moïse Tshombe and foreign interests.

Moïse Tshombe: A Congolese politician who led Katanga's secessionist government and later served as prime minister of the Congo. As Katanga's president, he declared independence and directed its political strategy.
