Kerala backwaters

Kerala backwaters are a network of lagoons, lakes, rivers, and canals running parallel to Kerala’s coast and connected to the Arabian Sea. They combine freshwater and tidal environments with settlements, agriculture, and water transport.

Vembanad Lake: A large brackish lagoon in Kerala and the largest lake in the state. It is the backwaters’ largest water body and receives several rivers.
Kettuvallam: A traditional Kerala boat made by joining wooden planks with coir rope. These boats once carried rice and goods through the waterways and now serve tourism.
