Khalq

Khalq was the radical faction of Afghanistan’s People’s Democratic Party led by Nur Muhammad Taraki and Hafizullah Amin. It seized power in the 1978 Saur Revolution and pursued rapid, coercive reforms.

People’s Democratic Party of Afghanistan: A Marxist political party that ruled Afghanistan from 1978 until 1992. Khalq was one of its two principal factions and briefly dominated the party after the 1978 coup.
