Khanate of Khiva

The Khanate of Khiva was a Central Asian state centered on Khiva from the early 16th century until Russia made it a protectorate in 1873.

Khwarazm: A historical region around the lower Amu Darya, spanning parts of present-day Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan. The khanate occupied this ancient oasis region and took its political center at Khiva.
Khiva: A historic city in present-day Uzbekistan and the former capital of the Khanate of Khiva. The city served as the khanate’s political center and gave the state its familiar name.
