Kharkiv

Kharkiv is a city in northeastern Ukraine and the administrative center of Kharkiv Oblast. It is a major educational, industrial, and cultural center near the Russian border.

Kharkiv Fortress: A seventeenth-century fortification established by Cossacks at the site of present-day Kharkiv. The fortress founded in 1654 anchored the settlement that became Kharkiv.
