Kibbutz

A kibbutz is a communal settlement in Israel, traditionally organized around collective ownership, shared labor, and joint responsibility for members’ welfare.

Kibbutz economy: The system of production, resource allocation, and income sharing within a kibbutz. It describes how kibbutzim organized work and distributed resources collectively.
Degania Alef: The first kibbutz, founded in 1910 near the Sea of Galilee. Its founding established a lasting model for collective settlement.
A. D. Gordon: A Jewish labor philosopher who advocated physical work and spiritual renewal in Palestine. His writings gave ideological weight to agricultural labor among early settlers.
Yishuv: The Jewish community in Palestine before the establishment of Israel in 1948. Kibbutzim were part of the institutions and settlement networks of the pre-state community.
