Kikuyu people

The Kikuyu are Kenya’s largest ethnic group, traditionally associated with the central highlands. Their language, social institutions, and political history have shaped modern Kenya.

Gĩkũyũ and Mũmbi: In Kikuyu tradition, Gĩkũyũ and Mũmbi are ancestral figures associated with the origins of the Kikuyu people. Their origin story connects Kikuyu identity to ancestral settlement around Mount Kenya.
Jomo Kenyatta: Jomo Kenyatta was a Kenyan independence leader and the country’s first president. His political career made Kikuyu identity prominent in Kenya’s independence and postcolonial history.
