Kilij Arslan I

Kilij Arslan I was a Seljuk sultan of Rûm from 1092 to 1107. He fought the First Crusade and expanded Seljuk rule in Anatolia.

Battle of Dorylaeum: A 1097 battle in Anatolia in which crusader forces defeated an army led by Kilij Arslan I. The battle exposed the limits of his ability to stop the First Crusade in open combat.
Sultanate of Rûm: A Seljuk Turkic state in Anatolia that lasted from the late eleventh century to the early fourteenth century. Kilij Arslan ruled this state and helped establish its durable presence in Anatolia.
Suleiman ibn Qutalmish: A Seljuk prince who founded the Seljuk Sultanate of Rûm and ruled from 1077 to 1086. Kilij Arslan was his son and inherited his claim to the Anatolian sultanate.
