King Fahd Causeway

The King Fahd Causeway is a 25-kilometer road link joining Saudi Arabia and Bahrain across the Gulf of Bahrain. Opened in 1986, it combines bridges and embankments with border and customs facilities.

Gulf of Bahrain: A shallow gulf between eastern Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, connected to the Persian Gulf. The causeway crosses this gulf to link Bahrain with Saudi Arabia.
King Fahd Causeway Authority: The Saudi-Bahraini organization responsible for operating and maintaining the King Fahd Causeway. It manages the crossing's infrastructure and daily operations.
Fahd of Saudi Arabia: King of Saudi Arabia from 1982 to 2005, whose name was given to the causeway. The project was named for Fahd, who became king during its construction.
Cross-border commuting: Regular travel across an international boundary for work, education, or daily activities. The causeway makes routine land travel between Bahrain and eastern Saudi Arabia possible.
Bahrain–Qatar Friendship Bridge: A proposed bridge project intended to connect Bahrain and Qatar across the Persian Gulf. Unlike the operating Saudi link, this planned crossing has not been completed.
