Kingdom of Asturias

The Kingdom of Asturias was a Christian polity in northwestern Iberia, founded in the eighth century after the Muslim conquest and absorbed into the Kingdom of León in 924.

Muslim conquest of the Iberian Peninsula: The Umayyad invasion and rapid conquest of most of Iberia, beginning in 711. The conquest dismantled Visigothic rule and created the conditions for Asturias to emerge.
