Kingdom of Israel

An ancient kingdom in the southern Levant, centered in Samaria and distinct from the southern Kingdom of Judah. It emerged after the united monarchy’s division and was conquered by Assyria in the eighth century BCE.

Battle of Qarqar: A battle in 853 BCE in which an Assyrian army fought a coalition of Levantine rulers, including Ahab of Israel. Ahab’s participation shows Israel acting within a wider alliance against Assyria.
