Kingdom of León

A medieval Christian kingdom in the Iberian Peninsula, centered on León, that existed from 910 until its permanent union with Castile in 1230.

Kingdom of Asturias: A Christian kingdom in the northwestern Iberian Peninsula that preceded León and ruled from the eighth century until 910. León emerged when the Asturian court and royal center shifted south to the city of León.
Alfonso VI of León and Castile: A king who ruled León and Castile from 1072 to 1109 and captured Toledo in 1085. His reign extended Leonese power southward and elevated the kingdom’s political reach.

Alfonso VII of León and Castile: A king of León and Castile who was crowned emperor in 1135 and divided his realms among his sons. His partition restored separate Leonese and Castilian crowns for another generation.
