Kingdom of Tahiti

A Polynesian monarchy centered on Tahiti and ruled by the Pōmare dynasty. France annexed it in 1880 after decades of conflict and political pressure.

Pōmare dynasty: A Tahitian royal dynasty that ruled the Kingdom of Tahiti and other Polynesian territories. Its rulers founded, governed, and negotiated the kingdom’s survival.
Pōmare II: King of Tahiti from 1803 until 1821, who restored his authority with British missionary support. His reign consolidated the monarchy and tied it closely to Christianity.
Pōmare IV: Queen of Tahiti from 1827 to 1877, who resisted French attempts to control the kingdom. Her long reign encompassed the protectorate’s establishment and the Franco-Tahitian War.
