Kip Thorne

Kip Thorne is an American theoretical physicist whose work shaped gravitational physics, black-hole theory, and the experimental detection of gravitational waves.

LIGO: The Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory is a pair of detectors that measure tiny changes in distance caused by gravitational waves. Thorne helped develop the scientific case and technical foundations for this observatory.
