Kipchak languages

The Kipchak languages are a branch of the Turkic language family spoken across parts of Eastern Europe, Central Asia, and Siberia. They include Kazakh, Kyrgyz, Tatar, Bashkir, and several other languages.

Turkic languages: A language family whose members are spoken across Eurasia, from Anatolia to Siberia. Kipchak languages form one of this family's major branches.
Kazakh language: A Kipchak Turkic language spoken chiefly in Kazakhstan and neighboring regions. Kazakh is one of the branch's largest languages by number of speakers.
Kipchaks: A medieval Turkic-speaking confederation that inhabited the Eurasian steppe and became known in Europe as Cumans. The branch's name derives from this people and their historical language.
Oghuz languages: A major Turkic branch that includes Turkish, Azerbaijani, and Turkmen. Oghuz is the principal Turkic branch contrasted with Kipchak in western Eurasia.
Turkic language family: A proposed genealogical family of languages extending across Eurasia, including Turkic, Mongolic, and Tungusic branches. The proposed wider grouping places Kipchak within a debated family-level classification.
Kyrgyz language: A Kipchak Turkic language spoken chiefly in Kyrgyzstan and adjacent areas. Kyrgyz represents the branch's southeastern range in Central Asia.
Cuman–Kipchak language: A medieval Turkic language documented across the Eurasian steppe and in several regional literary traditions. It provides the main historical evidence for earlier Kipchak speech.
Karluk languages: A Turkic branch that includes Uzbek and Uyghur. Karluk languages border Kipchak varieties in Central Asia but form a distinct branch.
Turkic vowel harmony: A phonological pattern in which vowels within a word share features such as frontness or roundedness. Vowel harmony is a prominent shared feature across many Kipchak languages.
Tatar language: A Kipchak Turkic language spoken mainly in Tatarstan and other parts of Russia. Tatar is a major western member with a longstanding literary tradition.
