Konrad Zuse

Konrad Zuse (1910–1995) was a German engineer who built the Z3, an early programmable, automatic digital computer, and developed Plankalkül, an early high-level programming language.

Binary number system: A numeral system that represents numbers using two symbols, usually 0 and 1. Zuse used binary arithmetic in his computers, departing from the decimal machinery common in earlier designs.
Z3 (computer): An electromechanical, binary, floating-point computer completed by Konrad Zuse in 1941. It was Zuse’s best-known working machine and demonstrated automatic execution of programs.
Plankalkül: A programming language designed by Konrad Zuse in the 1940s for expressing algorithms. It extended Zuse’s work beyond hardware to a systematic notation for programming.
German computing during World War II: The development and use of computing machines in Germany during the Second World War. Wartime conditions affected Zuse’s resources, projects, and the later visibility of his machines.
