Korail

Korail is South Korea’s state-owned railway operator, formally the Korea Railroad Corporation. It operates passenger and freight trains and maintains much of the national railway network.

KTX: KTX is South Korea’s high-speed rail service, operated by Korail. It is Korail’s flagship service for fast intercity travel.
Korea National Railway: Korea National Railway is South Korea’s public agency responsible for railway infrastructure construction and management. Unlike Korail, it is responsible for infrastructure rather than operating trains.
Korean National Railroad: Korean National Railroad was the state railway agency that operated South Korea’s railways before Korail’s establishment. Korail inherited the operating role of this predecessor agency.
Seoul Metropolitan Subway: The Seoul Metropolitan Subway is the interconnected urban rail network serving Seoul and surrounding areas. It includes multiple operators, so not every Seoul-area train is a Korail service.
ITX-Saemaeul: ITX-Saemaeul is a Korail intercity passenger train service connecting cities across South Korea. It serves intercity journeys outside the high-speed KTX network.
Railway electrification: Railway electrification supplies trains with electrical power through overhead wires or conductor rails. Electrified lines support many of Korail’s passenger services.
Korea Railroad Corporation Act: The Korea Railroad Corporation Act established the legal basis for the state-owned railway corporation. The act enabled the organization that became Korail.
SRT: SRT is a South Korean high-speed rail service operated by SR Corporation. It competes with KTX on high-speed routes but has a separate operator.
Mugunghwa-ho: Mugunghwa-ho is a Korail passenger train service serving routes across South Korea. Its trains provide a lower-cost option on many conventional rail routes.
Railway signaling: Railway signaling systems control train movements and maintain safe separation on railways. Signals coordinate trains using the shared network on which Korail operates.
