Kotelny Island

Kotelny Island is a large island in Russia’s New Siberian Islands archipelago, between the Laptev Sea and East Siberian Sea.

New Siberian Islands: An archipelago in the Arctic Ocean north of mainland Siberia, administratively part of Russia’s Sakha Republic. Kotelny is one of this remote island group’s largest islands.
Yakov Permyakov: A Russian explorer and merchant associated with early European reports of islands in the New Siberian region. His 1712 expedition is traditionally credited with sighting Kotelny.
Temp Air Base: A Russian military airfield on Kotelny Island, reopened in the twenty-first century. It supports Russia’s military presence and operations on the island.
