Kristen Nygaard

Kristen Nygaard (1926–2002) was a Norwegian computer scientist and politician who co-created Simula and helped develop object-oriented programming.

Simula: Simula is a programming language family developed in Norway, beginning in the 1960s, that introduced influential object-oriented ideas. Nygaard co-created Simula with Ole-Johan Dahl as a language for simulation.
Ole-Johan Dahl: Ole-Johan Dahl was a Norwegian computer scientist who co-created Simula with Kristen Nygaard. Their collaboration turned simulation needs into influential programming-language concepts.
Norwegian Computing Center: The Norwegian Computing Center is an independent research institute established in Oslo in 1952. Nygaard and Dahl developed Simula there.
Norwegian Labour Party: The Norwegian Labour Party is a social-democratic political party founded in 1887. Nygaard was active in the party and served in Norwegian public life.

C++: C++ is a general-purpose programming language that combines procedural and object-oriented features. Its object-oriented model drew on ideas developed in Simula.
Class (computer programming): A class is a programming construct that defines data and operations for creating objects. Simula 67 used classes to describe recurring kinds of simulated entities.
