Kulturkampf

Kulturkampf was the conflict between the German Empire and the Catholic Church, especially intense during the 1870s, over state authority, education, and religious institutions.

Pulpit Law: A Prussian law of 1871 that prohibited clergy from discussing state affairs from the pulpit when public peace was at risk. It curtailed political speech by clergy before the wider campaign expanded.
