Labrador Peninsula

A large peninsula in eastern Canada, bounded by Hudson Bay, the Labrador Sea, the Gulf of St. Lawrence, and the Saint Lawrence River.

Labrador: A geographic region in eastern Canada occupying the eastern part of the Labrador Peninsula. The region gives the peninsula its name and covers much of its eastern side.
Canadian Shield: A vast region of exposed ancient Precambrian rock surrounding Hudson Bay. Its bedrock underlies most of the peninsula.
Churchill Falls Generating Station: A large hydroelectric power station on the Churchill River in Labrador. It is a major example of the peninsula's hydroelectric development.

Labrador Iron Ore Royalty Corporation: A Canadian company that holds royalties and interests in iron ore production in Labrador and Quebec. Its holdings connect the peninsula's mineral deposits to commercial mining.
Nunatsiavut: An Inuit self-governing region in northern Labrador, established under the Labrador Inuit Land Claims Agreement. Its territory covers a substantial part of the peninsula's northern Atlantic coast.
Newfoundland and Labrador: A Canadian province comprising the island of Newfoundland and the mainland region of Labrador. Its mainland Labrador portion occupies the peninsula's eastern region.
Glacial lake: A lake formed by meltwater from a glacier or ice sheet. Glacial meltwater helped shape the peninsula's many lakes and drainage routes.
