Lake Chapala

Lake Chapala is Mexico’s largest freshwater lake, occupying part of Jalisco and Michoacán west of Mexico City. It is a shallow basin whose water levels and ecology are shaped by seasonal rainfall and human use.

Lerma River: A river in west-central Mexico that flows into Lake Chapala after crossing several states. It supplies most of the lake’s incoming water.
Guadalajara: The capital of Jalisco and Mexico’s second-largest metropolitan area. The lake is a major source of water for the Guadalajara metropolitan region.
