Lake of the Woods

A large lake spanning Ontario, Manitoba, and Minnesota, distinguished by thousands of islands and a deeply irregular shoreline.

Rainy River: A river flowing from Rainy Lake into Lake of the Woods along part of the Canada–United States border. It is the lake’s principal inlet and carries water from the upstream Rainy Lake system.
Lake of the Woods Control Board: A binational board that coordinates regulation of Lake of the Woods and Rainy Lake water levels. It oversees water-level decisions affecting the lake and its downstream flow.

Walleye: A North American freshwater fish valued as a food and sport species. It is a prominent target of the lake’s recreational and commercial fisheries.
Big Island (Lake of the Woods): A large island in Lake of the Woods, within Ontario. It is one of the lake’s prominent landforms among thousands of islands.
Canada–United States border: The international boundary separating Canada and the United States. It crosses Lake of the Woods and divides its shoreline among national jurisdictions.
