Lake Turkana

Lake Turkana is a large, saline, alkaline lake in northern Kenya, with a northern arm extending into Ethiopia. Its desert shores preserve internationally significant fossil sites and support distinctive wildlife.

Koobi Fora: A fossil-rich region on Lake Turkana’s eastern shore, known for hominin remains and archaeological evidence. Its fossil beds made the lake a landmark in the study of human origins.
Omo River: A major Ethiopian river that flows south into Lake Turkana. It supplies most of the lake’s inflowing water and strongly influences its levels.
