Lalibela

Lalibela is a town in northern Ethiopia famed for eleven medieval churches carved from solid rock, a major center of Ethiopian Orthodox Christianity and pilgrimage.

Rock-cut architecture: Architecture formed by cutting spaces and structures directly into natural rock. Lalibela’s churches were excavated from bedrock rather than assembled from masonry.
